Gabapentin (Neurontin), Plasma

Useful For:
Gabapentin is an anticonvulsant drug commonly used as adjunctive therapy to treat partial seizures. Therapeutic drug monitoring is useful to optimize dose and avoid toxicity.

Methodology: Gas Chromatography (GC)

Specimen Requirements: 1 lavender-top (EDTA) tube (minimum: 0.5 mL of EDTA plasma) drawn 2 hours after last dose at steady-state. Centrifuge EDTA tube within 30 minutes after draw. Separate plasma and transfer into plastic vial. Refrigerate specimen after collection.

NOTE:

  • SST tube NOT acceptable.
  • Red-top is also acceptable.

Analytical Time: 2 days
