Test includes culture and gram stain. If indicated, further testing considered medically appropriate will be reflexed, resulting in additional charges.

Useful For:
Cultures of the nasopharynx or pharynx are not useful for establishing the etiology of middle ear infection.

Methodology: Multiple methodologies

Specimen Requirements:
CulturetteĀ® swab of affected area or submit corneal scrappings in a screw-capped, sterile container supplied by Meadville Medical Center Laboratory. Refrigerate specimen after collection. Maintain sterility and forward promptly.

NOTE: CULTURE SITE IS REQUIRED ON REQUEST FORM FOR PROCESSING
Specimen unacceptable if over 24 hours old.

Analytical Time:
Preliminary report: 1 day

Final report:
Negative: 2-7 days
Positive: 2-3 days

Days Set Up: Monday through Sunday
