Specimen Requirements:

ACCEPTABLE SPECIMENS

  • Female endocercervical
  • Male urethral swab

FEMALE ENDOCERVICAL SPECIMENS:
Collect specimen using the Aptima® Combo 2 Assay Unisex Swab Specimen Collection Kit for Endocervical and Urethral Swab Specimens supplied by Meadville Medical Center Laboratory. The white cleaning swab is provided to clean the cervix of blood and mucus prior to collection. The blue swab is used to collect the specimen for testing. After the specimen is collected, the swab is placed into the diluent tube and the shaft is broken at the score mark. The tube is recapped and stored at room temperature after collection.

NOTE: Do not submit cleaning swab.

MALE URETHRAL SPECIMENS:
Collect specimen using the Aptima® Combo 2 Assay Unisex Swab Specimen Collection Kit for Endocervical and Urethral Swab Specimens supplied by Meadville Medical Center Laboratory. After the specimen is collected, the blue swab is placed into the diluent tube and the shaft is broken at the score mark. The tube is recapped and stored at room temperature after collection.
