Patient Relations

Patient Care at Meadville Medical Center

As a patient or as a family member or guardian of a patient at Meadville Medical Center, we want you to know the rights you have under federal and Pennsylvania state law as soon as possible in your hospital stay. We are committed to honoring your rights, and want you to know that by taking an active role in your health care, you can help your hospital caregivers meet your needs as a patient or family member. That is why we ask that you and your family share with us certain responsibilities.

Being a good patient does not mean being a silent one. If you have questions, problems, suggestions, or unmet needs, please let hospital staff know immediately. If your issues remain unresolved, consider contacting a patient representative.

Patient Rights and Responsibilities

Created in accordance with The Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania, this flyer outlines your rights and responsibilities as a patient regarding informed decisions, confidentiality, and other issues.

Patient / Visitor Information Booklet

This patient/visitor information booklet provides a more comprehensive overview of information needed for your visit to Meadville Medical Center and its facilities.

Patient Representatives

Guest Services

The patient has a right to express concerns or ask questions through a patient representative. In most cases, by voicing concerns directly to hospital staff, issues can be resolved quickly and effectively without the need for a formal review. If the staff is unable to resolve the concern, the patient is encouraged to contact the patient representative at Meadville Medical Center Guest Services.

Additional Asstance and Feedback

Patient representatives can also provide assistance in matters regarding living wills and powers of attorney, reading and responding to patient surveys, controlling the lost and found of the hospital, and conducting notary public services. After receiving care at MMC, patients are surveyed to provide feedback and to benchmark nationally with similar hospitals. This information is then utilized for process improvement at MMC. Please ask if you have questions about the feedback process.

Grievance Committee

If the patient representative in Guest Services cannot resolve the concern, it will be referred to a grievance committee, which will conduct an investigation. If the grievance committee cannot reach a satisfactory outcome, the patient or legal representative can contact an outside agency such as the Pennsylvania State Department of Health.
