Additional Info: The congenital or acquired deficiency of Protein S increases the risk for thromboembolism, owing to a decrease of blood anticoagulant potential. It results in recurring thrombotic episodes. A decrease of protein S leads to a greater risk of thromboembolism.

Specimen Requirements: Due to specific specimen requirements, it is highly advised to collect this specimen at Meadville Medical Center Laboratory, Liberty Street. Special equipment and techniques are involved in specimen preparation for adequate specimen viability.
