Ethosuximide, Serum

Useful For:
Ethosuximide is an anticonvulsant used to treat patients with petit mal, myoclonic, and akinetic seizures. Therapeutic drug monitoring is useful to optimize dose and avoid toxicity.

Methodology: Enzyme Immunoassay (EIA)

Specimen Requirements: 1 plain, red-top (no additive) tube (minimum: 0.5 mL of serum) collected 4 hours post oral dose. Centrifuge red-top 30 minutes after draw. Refrigerate specimen after collection.

NOTE:
• SST tube not acceptable.
• Lavender-top (EDTA) is also acceptable.
