C-Peptide, Serum

Useful For: C-Peptide is useful in distinguishing insulin-secreting tumors, i.e., insulinomas, from exogenous insulin administration. C-Peptide concentrations are severely depressed or absent in Type I diabetes mellitus. C-Peptide is also useful in monitoring patients who have received islet cell or pancreatic transplants.

Methodology: Chemiluminescence

Specimen Requirements: 1 yellow-top SST tube (minimum: 0.5 mL of serum). Patient should fast 12 hours prior to collection. Centrifuge yellow-top soon after collecting. Refrigerate specimen after collection.
