Meadville Medical Center’s newly approved registered nurse program will not be impacted at all by the announced closure of Sharon Regional Medical Center and MMC plans to start accepting student into the nursing program this January 2025.

We were very disappointed with the closure notice issued for Sharon Regional Medical Center, however the nursing program will move forward with graduating the current cohort of students scheduled to graduate in May 2026 in accordance with the Teach Out plan submitted to the State Board of Nursing.

The Sharon Regional School of Nursing maintains a current accreditation through ACEN. With the support of Meadville Medical Center working closely with Penn State Shenango, Thiel College, and Sharon Regional administration, classroom and clinical sites will remain in place to support the needs of the curriculum and to ensure graduates are able to successfully meet the graduate outcomes.
