Meadville, PA - Meadville Medical Center announced the opening of a Flu
Evaluation Center (FEC) designed to help battle the flu and recent COVID
19 pandemic. It will be located at the Meadville Community Health Center,
640 Alden Street, Meadville, PA. Hours of operation are Monday through
Friday 8:30 am to 8:00 pm. These days and hours of operation may be adjusted
in accordance with the ever-changing needs of the flu season and the local
impact of the COVID19 pandemic.
In conjunction with the medical and administrative leaders of Meadville
Medical Center, Frank McLaughlin, DO, FAAFP, Director of Community Health,
Hospitalist Medicine and Medical Education, will oversee the clinic for
screening, evaluation, and treatment for those who have flu, upper respiratory
symptoms or have been exposed to the COVID19 virus. It will be staffed
by physicians and clinical staff. A designated area has been specially
prepared within the Meadville Community Health Center to care for these
patients and avoid spread of illness to the general public.
In an effort to protect patients and staff, community members with flu-like
symptoms or COVID19 exposure must call 814-373-5216 in order to be seen
in the Flu Evaluation Center. Walk ins are not accepted. Test results
for flu and other respiratory viruses can be obtained in approximately
1-2 hours through the Meadville Medical Center hospital laboratory. Test
results for COVID19 must be sent to a special laboratory and results may
take 48 hours or more. All results and treatment rendered will be shared
with your primary care physician.
Denise Johnson, MD, MMC Chief Medical Officer, said “This clinic
was designed to allow the public to receive care in a safe and expeditious
manner and to avoid unnecessary use of the hospital emergency room.”
