A gift to Meadville Medical Center (MMC) is
a gift of life. Your generous financial
support is needed to ensure that the highest
quality of health care will always be
available for future generations of our
community.
Keeping
You In Mind
Patients and families have come to expect
excellent quality of care at Meadville
Medical Center. In the early nineties,
Meadville Medical Center's Board of
Directors considered the massive changes
occurring in healthcare. The most pressing
issue was the increasing cost of technology
with diminishing resources available to meet
these needs.
As a partial solution, the board elected to
establish Meadville Medical Center
Foundation for the purpose of acquiring
private donor support that would assist in
the continued advancement of the Medical
Center. Leaders from every section of the
community united in support of the MMC
Foundation's Annual Fund Campaigns.
The response to the MMC Foundation from the
community has been excellent. Generous
support and prudent stewardship of
resources, has allowed MMC to continue to
upgrade its facilities, offer new services
and provide high quality health care. It is
anticipated that support from the community
will continue and serve as the cornerstone
of the future growth of the Foundation.
Despite being one of the lower cost
hospitals in Northwest Pennsylvania, the
payments MMC receives for caring for
Medicare and Medicaid patients, which
represents 80% of our patient population,
are frequently less than the cost to provide
the services. Primarily because of "welfare
reform" in Pennsylvania, the number of
patients at MMC with Medical Assistance
coverage has been declining. Predictably,
charity care has been increasing. During the
last three fiscal years, costs to provide
services to Medical Assistance and charity
care patients were on average $1.7 million
less than reimbursements.
The management and staff members of MMC and
the volunteer Board of Directors remain
committed to providing basic health care to
everyone regardless of the patient's ability
to pay. Our goal is to remain a non-profit,
independent community hospital with our
Board members continuing to make decisions
based on the health care needs of this
community.
You Can
Make A Difference
A commitment to providing compassionate,
high quality health care to all who enter
its doors is the hallmark of Meadville
Medical Center.
Annual Fund gifts earmarked for the Medical
Equipment Fund, Community Health Outreach,
Community Health Services, Medical Education
Fund, Cancer Care Fund or Area of Greatest
Need can and do make a difference. MMC
depends on the generosity of our friends,
neighbors and past patients to help us
ensure MMC's equipment continues to be
up-to-date. Gifts to the Annual Fund have
been used to purchase equipment and fund
programs which otherwise may not have been
available for our patients. There is a constant need to
replace older equipment and to acquire new
medical technology to ensure that as many
lives as humanly possible will be saved in
the struggle to prevent, detect and treat
disease. Purchasing new equipment allows the
medical staff to provide the best possible
care.
With this reality in mind, thank you for the
overwhelming generosity you have shown in
the past. Please continue to help support
the Meadville Medical Center Foundation and
help keep us ready to meet the health care
challenge of the future. Your contribution
may be in a form of an outright donation or
a pledge payable over one year. Please make
your check payable to Meadville Medical
Center Foundation. A charitable gift receipt
will be issued for income tax purposes.
