The 2002 Annual Fund Campaign was a success! Gifts and pledges from the community raised a total of $215,136. We are pleased to announce that this surpassed our goal of $200,000.

The focus of the 2002 Annual Fund Campaign was to raise funds for renovations to two of the four same-day, outpatient surgical suites at the Grove Street facility. Minimally invasive procedures such as shoulder and knee surgeries and laparoscopic gynecological procedures are performed at the outpatient suites. Patients will benefit from the renovations and additions of state-of-the-art equipment for minimally invasive surgeries by experiencing less discomfort and shortened recovery times.

Gifts designated for Community Health Services provided funds for Tech Talk, equipment that provides children a chance to learn and communicate, as well as training equipment for patients and staff.

Other Annual Fund gifts were designed to meet specific needs throughout Meadville Medical Center.

The 2002 Annual Fund Campaign Leadership Team was a huge contributor to the success of the campaign. Without the commitment, effort, time and enthusiasm of our 106 volunteers, our success would not be possible. The 2002 Leadership Team consisted of General Chairperson Catherine R. Foster, and division chairpersons, Ms. Lila Beedle, Mrs. Stella O. Deater, Robert B. Dornhaffer, Esq., Abe M. Finton, D.D.S., Mr. Clark J. Hoffman, Richard F. McDermot, Ph.D., Mr. David A. McMillin, Mr. Donald E. Snyder, Mr. Mark H. Strausbaugh, Mark F. Sullivan, M.D., Mrs. Barbara A. Wetzel, and Ms. Leslie S. Work. We sincerely appreciate and thank the leadership team for their outstanding commitment to the Meadville Medical Center.

We extend our sincere appreciation to donors and all who contributed to the 2002 Annual Fund Campaign's success. Your assistance and support allows the Meadville Medical Center to continue to provide the highest medical care and technology to our community. Thank you and we look forward to another successful Annual Fund Campaign in 2003!

Gift funds were used to purchase fourteen state-of-the-art beds for MMC's Oncology Unit. The Total Care bed will automatically move a patient from a lying position to an upright, sitting position with no effort on the patient's behalf. With special body support to help reduce neck, back, leg and ankle pain, these beds are one of the most comfortable beds available and provide the maximum pain relief for cancer patients.

You Can Make A Difference
Annual Fund gifts earmarked for the Purchase of Surgical Equipment, Community Health Outreach, Community Health Services or the Area of Greatest Need can and do make a difference. MMC depends on the generosity of our friends, neighbors and past patients to help us ensure MMC's equipment continues to be up-to-date. There is a constant need to replace older equipment and to acquire new medical technology to ensure that as many lives as humanly possible will be saved in the struggle to prevent, detect and treat disease. Purchasing new equipment allows the medical staff to provide the best possible care.

With this reality in mind, thank you for the overwhelming generosity you have shown in the past. Please continue to help support the Meadville Medical Center Foundation and help keep us ready to meet the health care challenge of the future. Your contribution may be in the form of an outright donation or a pledge payable over one year. Please make your check payable to Meadville Medical Center Foundation. A charitable gift receipt will be issued for income tax purposes.

Why do you support the Meadville Medical Center Foundation?
"To give the Medical Center the opportunity to determine what is needed in our own community and to keep the high quality of health care local."
Mr. James W. Patterson
Chairman of the Board Directors of the MMC Foundation

"A strong hospital is a cornerstone for a strong community."
Dr. John B. Nesbitt

"Because it is here, and it is important to have it here. The last thing a sick person needs is to have to travel 50 or 100 miles to receive high quality medical treatment or to have access to the latest diagnostic instruments. In Meadville we are fortunate to have a good local hospital with a competent staff and up-to-date equipment, and contributions to the MMC Foundation help to keep it that way."
Richard McDermot, Ph.D.
2002 Individuals' Division Chairperson

"Health Care is the most precious commodity in our society and our community hospital is the integral component of health care. The hospital brings together structural facilities, the high technology of medical equipment, the medications of healing and ultimately the human endeavor of highly skilled physicians and support personnel. The community hospital must provide the integration of the finest of these components for delivery to the citizens of our community area now and for generations to come."
Robert B. Domhaffer, Esq.
2002 Corporators' Division Chairperson MMC Foundation Board Member

"I consider my contribution a gift to the patients who trust us with their care."
Leslie S. Work, RN
CCRN Post Anesthesia Care Unit
MMC 2002 MMC Staff Members' Division Chairperson

"It is very comforting to me and my family that quality care is available to all of us right here in our neighborhood, at Meadville Medical Center, without having to go out of town. That is why I support and continue to volunteer for the Foundation."
