Speech Therapy Services
Speech pathologists serve individuals, families, groups and the general public through work to prevent and treat disabilities involving speech, voice, language, communication, swallowing.
Services provided by MMC's speech pathology staff include the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up services for pediatrics, adults and geriatrics in the following areas:
Including disorders of articulation, fluency, and voice.
Including disorders of receptive and expressive communication in oral, written, graphic, and manual modalities.
Including disorders of swallowing and oral function for feeding; orofacial myofunctional disorders. This includes modified barium swallow studies.
Cognitive Aspects of Communication
Including communication disability and other functional disabilities associated with cognitive impairment.
Social Aspects of Communication
Including challenging behavior, ineffective social skills, lack of communication opportunities, etc.
Including patient's communicative partners and/or support staff.
Alternative Communication Techniques
Includes identifying least restrictive communication aids, devices, and/or gesturing/signing.
Central Auditory Processing
Including cases in which there is evidence of speech, language, and/or other cognitive-communication disorders such as in the case of learning disordered children/adolescents.
Computerized Speech Lab 4300B
A specialized computer program that obtains objective numerical values to assist in the treatment process of patients with communication disorders.
